The Mob vs. The C-Notes
The Pro Finals
By: Brian McDonald
The Mob is like Mike McDermott in Rounders, they have been just grinding it out all year. Nothing flashy, but they just keep getting the job done. Things have been hard on this team since the week after the draft when Rob Cotter's first overall pick Tom Deveau demanded a trade, then came the Week 1 sweep at the hands of the Revolvers and the outlook on the year looked bleak. Rob Cotter stepped up for his team and made some moves to a point that most people in the league can't name his full roster. This group of unknowns has been getting it done though. Stoop has stepped up and has been the leader of this team, and Troy has emerged as their go to Ace. The Mob is a team built on offense that is lead by Stoop and Ryan Kaddy. This team will be an underdog on Sunday though because of their pitching. Troy, Jake Levine and Stoop are all good pitchers, but they will have to limit the runs they give up because getting runs could be sparse against Josh Pagano. Look for Rob Cotter to pitch his # 3 starter and punt the game Josh pitches. He will try and put his best two pitchers against Jimmy Pagano and Steve Urquhart and go for the Championship. It's the smart approach.
When Brian and Mike Connolly picked Josh, Evan and Jimmy on draft day many people thought the C-Notes would either win the entire thing or struggle miserably in the new format. Well they didn't struggle. The C-Notes come off a huge round 1 demolishing of the Revolvers and are primed for their first title in GSWL. The C-notes are lead by the best overall player in GSWL, Josh Pagano. Pagano is the best pitcher in the league, maybe the country and he is about as good of a lock to win game 1 as you can find. The C-notes will look for Steve Urquhart or Jimmy Pagano to limit the Mob's offense, and they only have to go 3 innings till the Mob sees Josh again in one of the games. The C-notes offense is pretty scary as well and considering they were able to get to Matty Griff and Rob Donahue last week, they should be able to put up plenty of runs off the Mob's pitching. The C-Notes are too good not to win on Sunday.
Overall: The Mob has the momentum in this series, beating the Black
Widows in a playoff like series in week 6 and upsetting the # 1 seed
K/9's in Round 1. Rob Cotter will put his team in a position to win this
week and the C-Notes are going to need Jimmy or Urquhart to give them 3
solid innings. Look for Urquhart to step up and help the C-Notes
franchise win their first championship in GSWL history.Keep in mind in the regular season the Mob was only a few outs away from taking the series from the C-Notes. However... these are the National Champions we're talking about.
C-Notes take home the title in 3.
