PA #3 Wrap Up

Kdogg is the bracketmaster in PA.

The third tournament in the Philadelphia YARD League region took place last weekend on a Little League field behind the Dolphin Swim Club in Trevose PA. Ten teams turned up to compete for the first place prize money, national standings points, and bragging rights for the weeks to come.

Bracket A Teams:
NY Swingmen
PA Tomahawks
PA On Tilt
NY Screwballs
PA Blue Dragons

Bracket B Teams:
PA Gashouse
PA Minutemen
NY Dragons
NY Bandits
NY 10 Run Rule

Stant has been throwing well for the DE boys.

Bracket A posted some stiff competition with PA natives the DE Dragons and PA On Tilt ultimately facing off in the A side semi-final game. In that game, Ant Collicchio started for the Blue Dragons but Ben Stant got the loss on the carpet, giving up the game winning home run to Chris Scipione. Scipione, in spite of surrendering a single to each of the DE Blue Dragons, would pitch well the entire game and send On Tilt to its first finals appearance of the 2015 season. TRR returns to their old stomping grounds.

But Bracket B seemed to be where most of the action was happening. Loaded with hard hitting teams like NY Ten Run Rule, NY Bandits, and PA Minutemen, there was no lack of excitement prior to the NY Bandits meeting the PA Minutemen in the B side semi-finals. In that game, substitute stud Adam Milsted received the loss for the Bandits, giving up two home runs to a very gritty Edgar Leroy PackerKyle Kaminskas pitched the Minutemen to victory, sending them to the finals where PA On Tilt were already waiting. The Minutemen found success with their bats early.

Both the finals and third place consolation game were both nail biters, with both victors edging out their opponents 3-2.

Red was on fire all day long!

In the third place consolation game, NY Bandits pitcher Chris “Red” Sarno Jr. faced off against Ben Stant of the DE Blue Dragons. Both pitchers surrendered two home runs to the opposition, but Chris Sarno Sr. would ultimately win it for the NY Bandits with his three hit, two RBI contribution at the plate. Scipione and Lallier have been sharp and Tilted!

In the final game of the day, Sean Steffy threw for the PA Minutemen and Chris Lallier tossed for PA On Tilt. Both pitchers posted zeros until the third inning, where Ed Packer would homer once again putting the Minutemen up 2-0. Kyle Kaminskas would tack on an RBI of his own in the bottom of the third, extending the Minutemen lead to three. On Tilt broke Steffys no-hitter in the top of the fourth with a Greg Burgwald single and a crazy Chris Lallier home run which just slipped through Ed Packers fingers. But Steffy would settle down and close out the two hitter but striking out Scipione for the last out. Full game stats available HERE

Looks like the PA Minutemen win it again.

With PA #3 in the books. We now look forward to PA #4 on 06/27 and the NY event to follow on 06/27. With rumblings of multiple PA teams making the trip to NY, who will emerge victorious from the final grueling weekend in June.
