The first round at PA #2 featured the first two tournaments winners on the same side of the bracket.  In the A bracket Freaky Franchise would lose its first round matchup to the Throwbacks 3-1 behind a stellar pitching performance from John Denaro (4IP, 1 ER, 2K).  The Minutemen fared better coming from 7 runs down in the bottom of the 4th to defeat the NY Playaz 8-7.  Ed Packer went deep twice in the final frame including a grand slam with one out to cut the lead to 7-4.  Sean Steffy won it for the Minutemen with a solo shot off Carlo DeGiovine of the Playaz.  The Minutemen went on to lose to the Throwbacks 3-1 for their first loss of the season, snapping a 7 game winning streak.  Dan O’Connell pitched beautifully for the Throwbacks, allowing only one run on three hits.  Rounding out the A side we have Way 2 Beautiful needing extra innings to defeat the Swingmen 7-3.  Adam Milsted led the way with 2 homers and 6 RBI for the beautiful ones.  In the final A bracket first round matchup, the NY Screwballs defeated the PA Tomahawks 5-1.  The Screwballs then faced W2B and lost 3-0.  In that game W2B was led on the mound by Tim Ranck who threw a five hit shutout and struck out three.

On the B side of the bracket the Bandits needed extras to take down Joe Kerins and the Red Roosters 5-2.  Chris Sarno hit two homeruns for the Bandits in the victory.  They would move on to face the Hammerheads, who knocked off the Dragons 7-0.  The Hammerheads would fall to the Bandits 6-5 despite hitting three home runs, two by Frank Kollias and the other from Rob Longiaru.  The Bandits hit four homer of their own, two from the younger Chris Sarno.  In the other two B bracket matchups the Blue Dragons swiftly took care of rookie team HV and would go on to win two more games. The big bat of the PA Blue Dragons, Anthony Collicchio, would go on to win their games vs NJ Gashouse Gorillas (3-2) and PA On Tilt (1-0).  Blue Dragons pitcher Ben Stant also tossed a shutout on the carpet to seal the deal vs On Tilt.

BRACKET B QUARTERFINALS

Blue Dragons (PA) vs. Bandits (NJ)

The Throwbacks had a lot of momentum after defeating the defending National Champs in the second round.  That momentum came to a screeching halt after losing to W2B 2-1 and then falling to the Minutemen in a rematch, also by the score of 2-1.  On the B side, the PA Blue Dragons defeated the Bandits by a score of 4-1.  The Bandits then needed to beat the Hammerheads to stay alive.  They were unable to do so, falling to the Hammerheads 9-5.  In that game the Hammerheads hit 8 home runs off Chris Sarno Jr., five from Rob Longiaru and three more from Frank Kollias.

SEMIFINALS

Way 2 Beautiful (NJ) vs. Minutemen (PA)

Hammerheads (NY) vs. Blue Dragons (PA)

The semi-finals pitted the PA Minutemen against their longtime rivals NJ Way Too Beautiful.  In this classic battle the Minutemen would emerge victorious by the score of 3-2 behind a 3 RBI output from Sean Steffy.  Kyle Kaminskas was just good enough on the mound finishing the game with 4Ks and only three hits allowed.  The other semi-final matchup saw a tired two-man squad in the Hammerheads take on a red hot PA Blue Dragons squad.  Rob Longiaru tied the game late with a two run shot to send the game into extras, but the Blue Dragons own Anthony Collicchio walked off in the bottom of the 6th, sending the Hammerheads packing by a score of 4-3.

FINALS

Minutemen (PA) vs. Blue Dragons (PA)

In the championship game Ed Packer drew the start for the Minutemen against Ben Stant of the Blue Dragons.  Sean Steffy hit another home run for the Minutemen and drove in another three RBIs in the game.  Ed Packer drove in the other three runs while also pitching 2 innings of 1 run and 1 hit ball.  Kyle Kaminskas came in for the final two innings and locked down the Minutemen’s second title of the season 6-2.  For the Blue Dragons Ben Stant hit two homer in the losing effort while also hurling 4 innings and striking out six.
