The Screwballs are no newbies to wiffleball. In fact they’ve been playing longer than some members of the league have been alive. The Ceccio brothers of John and Jerry, along with long time friends JR Coop and Rich Boscarino, are ready to make a run for the regional title, and perhaps a deep run at the 2015 OPEN. Despite their age, these men are in great shape and are very attractive wifflers. They come ready to play, and eat, every Sunday during the season. One will not be able to find a more classy group of guys than the Long Island Screwballs.
As for their on the field skills, nobody plays more fundamental wiffs than the Screwballs. Each guy can hit, field, and even pitch a little. John Ceccio had one of the better offensive seasons a player can have last year. In 2014 John slashed .594/.673/1.180 in 128 at bats and his .594 average was good enough for first place nationally. John added 16 homeruns and 21 doubles while also driving in 57 runs. His brother Jerry also contributed nicely at the plate and on the mound, logging 32 2/3 innings and only walking 17 guys in 2014.
Both Coop and Richie Boscarino can play as well. Boscarino led the team in wins with 6 as well as innings pitched with 37 1/3. At the dish, Coop slashed .336/.429/.546 as well as driving in 45 runs. The Screwballs are a solid team of veterans that will be in every game they play this year. Watch out for those early morning cocktails though!!! Good luck to the Screwballs in 2015.
