Is Ed Packer the winning-est player in Golden Stick right now?
Coming off a cool 2014 experience with his teams the CT Blue Razrs
(2014 FAST National Champs) and the PA Minutemen (2014 YARD National Champs),
I cannot help but wonder what 2015 will hold for Mister Edgar Leroy Packer. A recent graduate of
West Chester University, Edgar remains one of only three Pennsylvania players to claim
a Golden Stick national title (he’s also the only Pennsylvanian to own a title in both formats).
For FAST he will be defending the crown with the Razrs for the third straight year,
batting out the of #2 spot behind Kevin “MVP” Norris. In YARD he will be leading the
charge once more from the Philly region where he leads off for the reigning medium
pitch champs the PA Minutemen. Notoriously known for his hitting, Edgar also posted
some ridiculous numbers on the mound in 2014. Serving as the #2 man in the rotation
last year, Packer went 10-0 for the Minute boys with a 2.71 era in 40+ innings pitched.
With all of these consistent numbers being posted by Packer, the question for 2015
becomes “will he be able to do it again in 2015?” The last (and only) player to
accomplish this feat was the monster known as Dallas Mall (MA Doom - MA Throwbacks)
in 2011 and 2012. I questioned Edgar about his odds of repeat-repeating, to which he
responded: “No comment. Quote ET or something.” Thus I will end this article with a few
wise words from the master of motivation, Mister Eric Thomas: “Sleep? I don’t sleep.
You thought that was it? It goes deeper than going without sleep because you might miss
the opportunity to succeed. No, no, no! It’s about No Days Off! No weekends!
No Holidays! No Birthdays!” – Eric Thomas, How Bad Do You Want It?
